Meet Miss Mayfly Ambassador Circe Tsui

Miss Mayfly is fortunate to have ambassadors who believe in our mission to remove barriers and solve the gear challenges women face as anglers. Each brings her own experiences and perspective, along with a shared commitment to helping more women enjoy time on the water.

Today, I want to introduce you to Circe Tsui, a Miss Mayfly ambassador since 2021 and a supportive influence on our culture.

How Fishing Became Part of Her Life

Circe became a serious fly angler after completing her master’s degree in health informatics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. With school behind her, she had extra time and wanted a new hobby. By our original interview in 2022, she had been fly fishing for about 11 years.

Circe is an associate director of solutions architecture at Emory University, where she leads a team helping researchers use technology in their work. Her role includes everything from planning cloud systems to budgeting and education. That sounds like plenty to keep her busy already.

Fishing gives her time outdoors, a sense of peace, and a challenge she enjoys.

“Fishing helps me through difficult and stressful times in life. I enjoy the challenge of figuring out how to get a fish to respond and take what I am casting to them.”

She also values the friendships fishing has brought into her life, especially the connections she has made with other women anglers.

An Angler I Admire

Circe fishes both freshwater and saltwater. Her preferred freshwater method is Euro-nymphing—and I have seen how well it works for her.

On a personal note, I consider Circe one of the best female freshwater anglers I know. She is one of those people who can cast a line, settle into a drift, and catch fish, over and over again.

She occasionally enters fishing competitions for fun, and she tends to do pretty well. At the Casting Carolinas Tournament, she took first place in the amateur division two years in a row. That moved her into the professional division, where she placed third against some highly regarded anglers.

In 2022, she skipped the tournament to go camping with her husband instead. I suspect a few competitors were relieved.

A Love of Saltwater Fishing

In saltwater, Circe loves fishing for permit. Belize is her favorite saltwater destination. At the time of our original interview, she had recently purchased a second home there, giving her more opportunities to fish the waters she loves.

She also shares what she has learned through education and mentoring.

Sharing Her Time and Knowledge

Circe gives generously of her time through teaching, mentoring, and volunteering. Her work includes supporting women in fly fishing, introducing others to the sport, and caring for the waters she enjoys.

Her roles and contributions have included:

Her support has meant a great deal to our team. Since becoming a Miss Mayfly ambassador in 2021, she has helped us at shows and often promotes Mayfly during educational classes and events she participates in with groups and organizations.

Circe has been a supportive influence on our culture. She shares her knowledge, encourages other women, and gives her time to help our mission reach more people.

Why Our Mission Matters to Her

When I asked Circe what she likes most about Miss Mayfly, her answer was immediate:

“The mission! The mission and work to help remove barriers so women can participate in the outdoors. The mission for women to have access to gear that fits and improves their performance- this is what I love most.”

And that is why we love having her on our team. We see that commitment in the way she encourages other women, shares her knowledge, and supports our work.

Thank you, Circe, for all you do for Miss Mayfly and for the women you teach, mentor, and encourage. We are grateful to have you with us.
